Working With The Existing Building

The main reason this model suited the project was the building layout.

As Simon explained, the club needed something that required “very little building works.” The external model meant the lift could be positioned outside the building, under the deck, and lead directly up to the deck level.

That kept the solution simple and cost-effective. Rather than cutting through the building or creating a large internal shaft, the lift could be installed where it made sense for the way the club was already built.

An External Public Access Lift

This was a commercial public space install.

The lift was installed externally and designed to provide access up to the deck area connected to the bar and restaurant. For a venue like a golf club, that access matters because the upstairs area is often where members gather after a round, have a meal, or meet with other guests.

The lift helped solve that gap by giving disabled and elderly members a proper way to get upstairs without relying on the stairs.

Standard Finish, Practical Design

The lift was kept fairly standard.

Simon described it as “pretty standard, just all white,” with some glass panels included on one elevation. That gave the lift a clean finish without overcomplicating the design.

For this project, the priority was not making the lift a feature piece. It was about putting the right access solution in the right spot and making sure it worked with the club’s existing structure.

Project Timing

The lift was installed in April 2025.

From order to completion, the full project took around eight or nine months, although Simon said that was mainly because Axis Lifts had to wait for the club’s building works to be finished first.

That sort of timing is common on commercial projects. The lift installation itself depends on the site being ready, especially when it needs to connect properly with new or adjusted building works.

Why Axis Lifts Was Chosen

Simon summed it up simply: Axis Lifts had a cost-effective product that could provide the solution with limited building works.

That was the key advantage for the club. They needed access to the upstairs bar and restaurant, but they also needed a solution that suited the structure there.

The Result

The finished lift provides disabled access to Burrum District Golf Club’s upper deck, helping elderly and disabled members reach the bar and restaurant more easily.

Feedback from the club was positive. As Simon put it, there were “no complaints” and everyone was happy with the install.

A simple external lift, installed in the right location, gave the club access for all without turning the project into something bigger than it needed to be.
